I rent a small house that has a lovely back garden, but I really love the idea of building new garden ideas, and I don’t want to lose my deposit by doing something permanent. This project will have all the charm of a built-in custom lighting installation, but you will be able to pick it up and move it when you go.
Materials For The Renter-Friendly String Lights:
- Kwikcrete fast-setting concrete
- Concrete mixing tools (a power drill with mixing attachment)
- A bucket
- Planters
- Water
- 2 x 2 posts (in desired height)
- spray polyurethane (to finish)
- Hooks and screws
- A string of lights (I found mine at Michael’s)

Then, you will spray the polyurethane finish onto the poles and fasten the hooks near the top. All you will need to do is to place them around the garden and string your lights.
