This crochet t-shirt yarn rug is pretty neat and would be great to lay on a dining table. Crochet and Knitting with Tuula Maaria tutorial on YouTube are great at explaining the instructions in detail. I do not crochet, but I believe I would be able to follow along well with every step she explains. Plus, a lot of the shots are close up so I don’t have trouble seeing what she is doing. I find these types of rugs all the time at the stores, and I have a rectangle one in my kitchen. This can be universal for any usage around the house. I would be a fun project to work on when I am bored.
First, cut the ends at a slight diagonal of the t-shirt yarn so that it is tapered and it’s easier to start that way. To start, make a tight slipknot and take your t-shirt yarn and set the slipknot in front of it.
Next, make a tight stitch and take the cotton yarn around the t-shirt yarn and repeat by making a stitch. Continue to always chain one and go around the t-shirt yarn with a single crochet stitch until you’re able to fold it into a round coil shape.
Honestly, I didn’t know t-shirt yarn was a thing, so I find this rug pretty neat. I could make these into small coasters too and they can be used to be a placemat for the kitchen. I love how you can be creative and switch off the color pattern. This kind of rug would add a nice texture and character to a room because of how colorful it can be.
