Picking out fruits is important when going to the grocery store, and not a lot of people are aware of that. I know so many people who grab-and-go and do not double-check. Not a lot of people know how to pick out fruits, so this video by Daisy Creek Farms with Jag Singh is perfect if you need on how to pick a sweet watermelon. Growing up, my parents always took me to the grocery store with them. I think I was sort of trained to pick them out some of the best watermelons, but I might be biased. I believe I am lucky and have that upper-hand that my parents forced me to go with them. Honestly, I am thankful for it because picking out bad fruits are the worst. I’ve had times where I would pick out a dry orange which is not ideal. In this video, there are four tips on how to pick out a sweet watermelon.
If the stem is green, the watermelon was picked before it had the chance to become ripe. If it’s brown, the watermelon was ripened on the vine.
Check for the obvious yellow color on the watermelon. If there’s not a yellow spot or a faint white spot, the watermelon did not have enough time to bathe in the sun. The yellow spot means it’s ripe.
If it has a little give to the watermelon, that means the watermelon is ripe. If the watermelon is too hard, with no give, then that’s what you want to stay away from.
This is the tip that most people know, and if it sounds hollow that means it’s filled with water. If it’s hollow, that’s a good watermelon.
Finally, you have all of the tips that can help you choose a sweet watermelon. Keep these tips in mind and you’ll have a juicy sweet watermelon.
