If you are a DIY junkie and love saving money on your projects, then most likely you have at one time or another made, or thought about making this yourself, since it’s incredibly expensive.

This great stuff is designed to transform furniture and make it look vintage. This is the big rage in decor these days! Using chalk paint gives you that weathered look that adds so much light to your home…it gives you that airy look that is so exhilarating and you can do it yourself!

Why make it yourself? Chalk paint is quite expensive to buy.  For instance, Annie’s Sloan’s Chalk paint costs $34.99 per quart and $170 a gallon! I’m sure it’s wonderful, but, once again, why buy it when you can make your own and save a ton of money?

Some people use Calcium Carbonate, which is not that easy to find, although it does have a very good shelf life.  You can go to some of your bigger pharmacies and have them order it or you can order it online, but you’ll have that waiting time, so if it’s something you want to do fast, choose this guy’s recipe.  It will be smoother than the calcium carbonate mixture.

Another recipe consists of sanded grout, latex paint and a little bit of water.  Keep in mind that the grout mixture sets up way too fast, so you it looks like the recipe this guy uses still sounds like the best one to use!

So, are you ready to get started?  Follow the step by step tutorial by the DIY Dork so you can be on your way to creating a smashing piece of furniture!
