Sewing is more than just a skill or a necessity but it’s also a great hobby that I picked up a while ago. When you learn how to sew you will realize just how useful it is, especially when repairing holes or tears in your clothes, and even adjusting their size. They save you money because you don’t need to go to a professional or break the bank to pay for it.

What’s also great about learning how to sew is that you can create a lot of different items that you can use in everyday life such as storage boxes, caddies, organizers, pot holders, pie carries, and more. One perfect example of those is this DIY hearts basket by Yuu Pham on YouTube which you can make using fabric scraps!

Step 1

First, create a template on a cardboard as shown in the video, then use it to cut the fabric for the base, and make a running stitch around the edges. Gather the edge of the fabric by pulling the thread, then put the base cardboard template inside, and pull the thread tightly before securing it with a knot. Make another piece, then stack them together with their wrong sides facing, and clip them in place.

Step 2

Start stitching the edges closed, then sew a lace ribbon all the way around, and set the base aside. Get another fabric for the heart, then fold it over with its right side facing, and trace the heart template on top. Cut out the shape, then stitch around the edges making sure to leave an opening on one side, and then turn the heart piece right side out. Poke the edges, then stuff it with any filling you want, and stitch the gap closed.

Step 3

Sew a lace ribbon around the middle for extra design, then make more hearts in different colors, and arrange them around the base in whatever order you want. Stitch the hearts together on their sides, then stand them up around the base making sure they’re lined up nicely, and pin them in place. Stitch the bottom point of each heart to the base and you’re done!
