I remember making the regular paper stars when I was a kid. It was a great way to pass the time, and it was also fun to collect. I would fill different vases and boxes with the stars that I made. They always made me smile whenever I looked at them.

This woven paper star is a bit different from the one we know. It is also called the Froebel star and is mostly known in Germany. The star has 16 points–8 points on the sides, 4 points on the top, and 4 points on the bottom. The steps might be confusing on your first try, but after your third try, it will be a breeze. Learn how to make one with Cynthia Cratsley‘s video tutorial below.
Here’s another fun project for you: DIY Woven Lampshade
Fold all of the papers in half lengthwise, then stack them. Make the open ends pointed with a pair of scissors.
Use a basket weaving technique for the bottom. Place one folded strip horizontally with the open edges facing toward the right. Take a second one and insert it into the first one with the open ends facing down. Get another one and insert it on the second strip with the open ends facing to the left. For the last folded strip, insert between the third and first strips. See the photo below for reference. Pull them together.
Take the very top of each strip and fold them. Start from the top, then, left, bottom, and right. Tuck the right one inside the pocket.
Get the strip on the right-bottom piece, flip it backward, and point it downward. Take that strip and fold it over the left making an arrow shape. Fold it up to itself. Fold it to the right, then tuck the end into the loop.
Rotate and repeat the steps. Create 8 points.
Fold the bottom-right piece upward. Tuck the left-bottom strip into that folded strip. See the photo below for reference. Pull it all the way.
Rotate and repeat. Create 4 points on top.
Flip it upside down and repeat step 5.
