Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F, then peel off the skin of the sweet potatoes, and cut them into rounds with ¼ inch thickness. Place the sweet potato slices into the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish and arrange them in a nice layer as shown in the video, then set them aside.

Step 2

Place a medium-sized saucepan on a stove over medium-low heat, then add the butter, and let it melt. Once melted, add the white sugar, brown sugar, crushed pineapple, pineapple juice, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt, then stir everything until well combined, and bring it to a boil.

Step 3

Once boiling, turn off the heat, then remove the saucepan from the stove, and add in the vanilla extract. Quickly stir them until incorporated, then pour the mixture over to the sweet potatoes, and cover it with aluminum foil.

Step 4

Place it in the preheated oven, then let it bake for about 45 minutes, remove the foil, and baste the yams with the sauce. Put it back in the oven, then let it continue to bake for an additional 20 to 25 minutes or until tender and caramelized, and serve immediately. Enjoy!
