Missouri Star‘s country roads quilt immediately caught my attention when I saw it on my feed. How beautiful is this pattern? Everything about it is just amazing. The sashing and the border perfectly fit the block. I also love the colors that Jenny used for this sewing project. They are warm and lovely to look at.

I know you might be thinking it’s a hard quilt pattern, but trust me, it’s not. Don’t let it overwhelm you. The block is just made of jelly roll and honey bun strips sewn together. You’ll be surprised how easy this pattern is when you watch the video tutorial below. Here’s another fun pattern you might want to try: Easy Double Pinwheel Quilt Block Tutorial

Easy Country Roads Quilt Materials

  • 1 roll of 2 1/2″ print strips
  • 2 5/8 yards of background fabric or 1 honey bun (1 1/2 inch strips)
  • 1 1/4 yards for the outer border
  • 2/3 yards of binding
  • 4 5/8 yards – vertical seam for backing

How to Make Country Roads Quilt

Step 1:

Take 3 print strips and line them up. In between the print strips, add 1 1/2″ background strips. Sew them together with a 1/4″ seam allowance. Do this with your whole jelly roll. Make 13 strip sets.

Step 2:

Measure how tall your strip set is. Cut the strips set using that measurement to make squares. You will be left with a little piece at the end of your strip set – set it aside for later.

Step 3:

Take two blocks. Rotate one block so one is horizontal and the other is vertical. Place one block on top of the other, right sides together. Make sure they line up on two sides. Trim the excess. Sew all the way round.

Step 4:

Cut it diagonally in both directions. Press them open. Repeat with the other strips.

Step 5:

Arrange the pieces just like in the photo below. Sew them like a four-patch.

Arrange 5 rows with 5 blocks each. Sash them with one strip going in the bottom and one strip on the right with a cornerstone on the end. Do not add a cornerstone on the last block for each row.

Add 1 1/2″ border. Cut the leftover unit strips into 2 1/2″ strips. Sew them together end to end, then sew on your quilt top. Add another 1 1/2″ border, followed by the 6″ border.
