If you are looking for a festive pattern, this flying geese diamonds quilt by Missouri Star is the perfect choice! Isn’t this pattern lovely? The block is shaped like a diamond with curved edges instead of straight, making the quilt pattern more interesting. When you sew the blocks together, circles will form, which looks like an optical illusion.

Easy Flying Geese Diamonds Quilt Materials

  • 1 pack of 10″ print squares
  • 1 pack of 10″ squares (background)
  • 1/2 yards of inner border
  • 1 1/4 yards of outer border
  • 4 3/4 yards of backing

How to Make a Flying Geese Diamonds Quilt

Step 1:

Place a print square on top of a background square, right sides together. Cut a 5″ by 10″ rectangle. Set aside the half. Take the other half and cut into 2 pieces of 5″ squares.

Place the colored rectangle to the background squares, and the background rectangle to the colored squares. Fold the rectangles in half crosswise wrong sides together to make a crease.

Step 2:

Take the folded background rectangle and place it on one colored square. Set the folded edge about a quarter of an inch on the contrasting block, then place the other colored square on top. Sew a 1/4″ down the side.

Do the same thing with the opposite colors.

Step 3:

Press the square back, then open the folded rectangle. It should form a triangle. Press it flat. Do the same for the other unit.

Step 4:

Flip them over and trim the excess on the bottom.

Step 5:

Fold them over again. Get one unit. Fold the edge of the triangle to make a little curve, then sew right along it. See the photo below for reference. Repeat to the other side.

Do the same for the other unit.
