There’s nothing worse than stepping into your car and being greeted by an unpleasant odor. Whether it’s from spilled food, sweaty gym clothes, or that mysterious smell you can’t quite place, a stinky car can turn even the shortest drive into an uncomfortable experience.

Luckily, freshening up your vehicle doesn’t have to be a time-consuming or complicated task. With a few quick tips from Autoblog on YouTube, you can easily banish those bad smells and restore a pleasant, inviting aroma to your car. Ready to breathe easy again? Here are three quick tips to de-stink your car and keep it smelling fresh.

#1 Remove All Items and Find the Source

A quick thorough search usually turns up the source of a smell. When you find it, use a carpet cleaner and a wet vac to address the area. If the odor remains, sprinkle baking soda on the fabric and allow a few hours to absorb the smell. Vacuum it afterwards.

#2 Replace Cabin Air Filter

Cabin air filter placement varies from vehicle to vehicle. Air filters trap bad smells and release them when blowers are turned back on. So make sure to replace cabin air filters frequently.

#3 Clean Air Vents

If replacing the cabin air filter is not enough, it’s time to clean the air vents. The A/C is a breeding ground for mold due to moisture it creates during operation so be sure to clean it. To clean it, first, make sure the car is off, then take your vent cleaner and spray it in all the vents. Be sure to spray all vents that are part of the A/C system. Next, start your car and put your A/C on full blast with recirculation on. Repeat the process with the A/C system recirculating. After this, turn the A/C and recirculation off, but leave the fan on full blast and lower your windows.
