How to Clean a Washing Machine:
Step 1: Empty the Machine and Run a Clean Cycle
First, make sure that there are no clothes inside the machine and that it’s empty, and run a clean cycle. You can use either white vinegar or washing machine cleaners for this step. If you’re using white vinegar, add 2 cups to the detergent tray, then throw in a tablet inside the drum, and run it on a normal setting. Make sure that the water is set to hot and heavy or large load.
Step 2: Detail the Gasket
Grab a microfiber towel and an old toothbrush, then mix 1 cup of vinegar, 1 cup of water, and 1 teaspoon of Dawn dish soap in a spray bottle, and spray the whole area with it. Brush and scrub all of the dirt buildup, then wipe it clean with the cloth, spray more vinegar, and let it for a bit for scrubbing and wiping again.
Step 3: Clean Drain Filter and Scrub Removable Parts
Find the little trap door down your frontload washing machine, then let the little hose out, and pull the drain plug. Clean that area with your vinegar spray and toothbrush, then wipe it dry, and scrub the removable parts in your sink. Pat those parts dry before putting them back in your machine.
