6 Ways How to Unfreeze a Car Door Lock in the Winter

As much as I love the winter season, it’s really annoying that everything freezes up during this time, like my car door lock. It’s frustrating to unlock my frozen car door lock when I’m in a hurry. Luckily, 4DIYers has some amazing tips on how to unfreeze car door locks during the cold season.

#1 Don’t Force It
By forcing it, you may damage the lock assembly inside or break your key.
#2 Heat Gun
Hold the heat gun around the lock area until it warms up the lock assembly and melts the ice inside the door lock. You can also use it to heat the key itself and then put it inside the lock.
#3 Lighter
Heat up the metal portion of the key using a lighter (a similar type of idea to the heat gun mentioned above.)
#4 Eyesync
Eyesync tool can be used as well to unlock frozen car locks and it’s fairly inexpensive to buy. The great thing about this tool is that you can use it on multiple vehicles and use it over and over again.

#5 Vaseline
Put a little bit on your key and just insert it into the lock. Move it around until you’re able to turn the key freely and open the door. You can also use WD-40. Spray just a little inside and let it sit for a few minutes. It will make the moisture inside the lock disappear and de-ice the lock.
#6 Alcohol
Put on a little in your key and just wiggle it inside the lock until you can move your key freely (same idea with Vaseline mentioned above.)
