Ingredients for Banana Cream Pie Dessert:

Banana Cream Pie

  • 10 tbsp of salted butter, melted
  • (11-ounce) box or 2⅔ cups of Nilla wafers, crushed
  • 4-5 medium bananas
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 large egg yolks, at room temperature
  • 4 tbsp of cornstarch
  • ½ cup of sugar
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract
  • A pinch of fine sea salt
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 1 cup of whole milk

Whipped Cream Topping

  • 1½ cups of heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp of powdered sugar
  • ¼ tsp of vanilla extract
  • Dark chocolate, optional, for grating on top

How to Make Banana Cream Pie Dessert:

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 275°F, then lightly grease an 8 or 9-inch springform tart pan with butter or nonstick cooking spray, and set it aside. Add the Nilla wafers to a food processor, then crush them until fine crumbs, and transfer them to a large mixing bowl. Pour in the melted butter, then stir them until evenly combined and moistened, and transfer it to the prepared tart pan.

Press them down firmly at the bottom and up the sides, then smoothen out the seams as shown in the video, and set them aside. In another mixing bowl, add the eggs, egg yolks, sugar, cornstarch, salt, and vanilla extract, then whisk everything together until smooth and combined, and set the mixture aside.

Step 3

Place a small saucepan on a stove over medium heat, then pour in the cream and milk, and heat them until they start to gently simmer. Get the egg mixture, then whisk it continuously, and slowly pour in the hot milk mixture until incorporated. Pour everything back into the saucepan, then turn the heat to low, and cook them for about 5 minutes while whisking consistently until thickened.

Step 4

Slice 2 bananas thinly, then assemble it over the crust, and pour in the warm custard mixture on top making sure to gently shake the pan to help the custard spread evenly. Place the pie in the preheated oven, then allow it to bake for 30 minutes, and once done, let it cool completely at room temperature.

Step 5

Loosely cover the pan with plastic, then put it in the refrigerator, and allow it to chill overnight. The next morning, unmold the pie and transfer it to a serving platter, then whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until medium-stiff peaks form, and slice the remaining bananas. Pour the whipped cream on top of the pie, then cover it with banana slices, and grate chocolate over it. Serve and enjoy!
