How to Open a Frozen Car Door in Under 5 Minutes

As much as I love the Winter season, it’s just frustrating that everything seems to freeze at this time of the year, including my car’s door. This has been a constant problem of mine every Winter season, so I was ecstatic to finally find the best tutorial to un-freeze my door from Southdown Garage on YouTube. I swear, I’ve been buying unnecessary stuff for years when I only need one product – WD-40.

That’s right! Who would have thought WD-40 has an antifreeze compound that will help defrost a frozen car door? It’s a simple and straightforward method to do during this time of the year. It also keeps the car door from freezing up again. But aside from WD-40, you’ll also need plenty of water and a microfiber cloth. This may sound like a tedious job, but believe me, you’ll be able to open your door again in under five minutes. Materials:
- a pot (or jug)
- plenty of lukewarm water
- microfiber cloth
- WD-40
Directions:
Step 1
To start, fill a jug or a pot with lukewarm water. After this, pour it on the frozen car door gently, while trying to open it occasionally. Keep going with this until your door starts to budge. You can also start the engine to help defrost the door.

Step 2
Now, when the door finally opens, dry the side with a microfiber cloth, then spray it with WD-40. WD-40 helps dissipate water away from any surfaces, including car doors, and it will keep the door from freezing again.
