How to Fix a Sagging Door That’s Rubbing or Won’t Close

Fix # 1

Check if the top hinge is loose. Open the doors and see if you can tighten them. If your screw is stripped out, grab a toothpick, stick it in the hole, and break it off. Put the screw back in and tighten it. Don’t use a drill, just use a hand screwdriver.

Fix # 2

Take a long screw about 2 1/2 to 3 inches. The head size should be the same as the size of the screw that you have taken out of the door. To straighten the gap, open the door, take out the back screw, and angle the long screw slightly in towards the framing.

Fix # 3

Check the hinges and look at the gap spacing between the two plates if it’s quite bigger than it should be. Remove the pin from the hinge using a screw bit and a hammer. Once removed, you’ll notice that the loops on the hinge on the door part are past the loops on the jamb. In order to get them lining up, take the door loops and bend them towards the door. To do that, you’ll need a crescent wrench. Snug it up to the loop, with the moving part pointed away from you, and bend it. The distance that you want to bend the loops is about the distance that you want the door to move. Put back the pin and hammer it in place.
