If you’re a quilting beginner and looking for a strip piecing tutorial, you have come to the right place. This quilting tutorial from Carol Thelen on Youtube will teach you how to strip piece the easy way. This pattern has been my go-to when I need a quick quilt to make for my loved ones during the beginning of my quilting career. This pattern helped me a lot to get the hang of strip piecing, so hopefully, you will also learn a lot of techniques here. Watch the video tutorial below to learn the step by step instructions.

Materials:

Baby size quilt:

Directions:

Step 1

Cut 9 1/2 x WOF”, 6 1/2 x WOF”, and 3 1/2 x WOF” strips from your fabric 2. For the dark fabric, cut four 3 1/2″ x WOF and four 2 1/2″ x WOF strips. Now, make four different strip sets. Join the following rows in order starting from the top using a 1/4″ seam allowance. First: one 9 1/2″ x WOF and 3 1/2″ x WOF. Second: 3 1/2″ x WOF and 9 1/2″ x WOF. Third: 6 1/2″ x WOF, 3 1/2″ x WOF, and 3 1/2″ x WOF in light color. Fourth: 3 1/2″ x WOF, 3 1/2″ x WOF in light color, and 6 1/2″ x WOF. After piecing these, press open the seam allowance towards the dark fabric.

Step 2

Now, cut each set into 3 1/2″ segments and lay them according to the pattern below. Sew these together to form a block. Create as many as needed for your desired quilt size, then lay the blocks out in a diagonal pattern. Sew these blocks together to complete the quilt top.
