Materials:

  • Table Salt
  • Boric Acid
  • Essential Oils
  • Vaseline

Directions:

#1: Table Salt

Table salt is a known cleaning and disinfecting agent that can also prevent termites. To make a repellent using table salt, simply mix together equal parts of water and salt, then soak some cotton balls, and place them on top of the furniture around the areas where termites usually appear. The cellulose in the cotton will attract the bugs, then the salt mixture in it will dehydrate and drive them away.

#2: Boric Acid

This chemical can be used to treat infections but it is also effective in getting rid of termites, and it can actually be found as one of the ingredients in several insecticides. Boric acid attacks the termite’s nervous system eventually dehydrating them. To make a solution, simply mix together equal parts of sugar and boric acid, then put them in small containers such as bottles or jars with lids, and place some around the affected areas as well. Do this for about three to four weeks for the best results.

#3: Essential Oils

Essential oils have many uses and they are also great for repelling certain bugs and insects. For termites, the best essential oils to use are orange, clove, cinnamon, mint, and eucalyptus. Simply pour some oil on a spray bottle, then spray it over the affected areas, do this as needed.

#4: Vaseline

Vaseline is not exactly a poison that can kill termites but it is an effective way of getting rid of them because they serve as a repellent that creates a protective barrier around your furniture. It is recommended to scoop an ample amount of vaseline, then rub it on your furniture, and let it sit for one or two days before wiping it off and polishing it with a soft cloth.
