Super Simple Squares Quilt with Jenny Doan

Materials:

• 3 packs of 5″ squares
• 2 & 1/4 yards of solid background fabric
• 1 & 1/4 yards outer border fabric
• 5 yards of backing fabric

Directions:

Step 1

To start, open your pack of squares and quarter them to make the little corner squares on the pattern. So, get a piece, put your ruler right along the side, and cut them in both directions. Next, cut a 2 & 1/2″ strip for the sashing. Then, flip it so you can see the selvage edges, and trim that off. Now, take a square and attach a sashing piece right along the edge. Sew it with 1/4″ seam, then press open. Repeat this process with all of your squares, then sew all of your rows together.

Step 2

There are eight blocks in each row and ten down with sashing in between. It also starts with a sashing and ends with a sashing. Once you get your rows together, it’s time to put your sashing rows together. Take your little 2 & 1/2″ square and attach it to a 5″ piece. Sew with a 1/4″ seam. Sew a whole bunch of those together, then when you’re ready to put them together, just attach them to get a long row. After this, you can now lay out the quilt top.
