Place the white square on top of the black square. Sketch 2 opposite diagonal lines on the white square making an X. Then make a cross in the middle. Secure with pins then make another one using the 2 remaining squares.
Sew a diagonal line on top and bottom of the diagonal lines with a seam allowance of 1/4 inch for both of the squares.
Cut each of the triangles on the squares. Open each triangle to make a square and flatten using an iron. Trim off the excess for each square.
Assemble all the squares into this pattern. Then stack each column.
Sew the squares for each column first with a 1/4 inch allowance. Once done with the columns, sew them together. Press them using an iron.
Sew the border into the patchwork and cut off the excess. Finger press the border.
Make 2 folds on one of the 19.7-inch sides of both back fabrics. Place them on top of the patchwork right sides together and overlap them to make the same size as the front. Sew the edges by making two folds. Once done, pull the right side out.
