How To Make Fishing Bobbers from Wine Corks

Do you have a lot of wine corks ready to be recycled? This DIY fishing bobbers from Makify1 on Youtube is a great way to repurpose those wine corks just lying around in your house. Materials:

Step 1
Cut the dowel into 8-inch sections and draw a 16-inch hole in each quark. Drill holes as close to the center of the cork as possible and try to keep them straight. Next, glue the dowel pieces into the corks and let the glue dry completely. After this, shape the corks using a strip of 60 grit sandpaper. (It’s up to you how you would shape the bobbers to your liking.) At this point, cut down the dowel to its final size with a utility knife. Next, take a standard safety pin and cut it left with the coiled part on the bottom plus about a quarter inch on each leg. Use two pliers to bend the legs, then make shallow intentions on opposite sides of the dowel on the bottom of the bobber with diagonal cutting pliers.

Step 2
Wrap it with a plain polyester sewing thread. Wrap it all the way up to the safety pin legs and then a little further up the dowel. To finish it off, slip a piece of looped thread under one winding, wrap another seven times or so, then cut the wrapping thread while maintaining tension so it doesn’t unwind from the dowel. Slip the cut thread through the loop and pull both threads until the loop is tight against the windings. Then give it a quick tug to pull both threads back through the windings. For painting them, first, dip the bottom of the bobbers in gesso that’s been thin one to one with water, then slowly pull them out of the gesso. Let it dry for about 20 minutes, then dip the bottom in regular acrylic craft paint and slowly lift the bobber out. Paint the top in the same way. Once the paint is completely dry, add a protective coating by dipping. Once the paint is completely dry, the bobbers are ready to go.
