Want to beat the summer heat but can’t afford an air conditioner yet? Try this DIY homemade air conditioner by desertsun02 on YouTube using only a cooler, a mini fan, and a PVC pipe. Plus, you can make this solar-powered for lower electricity consumption. This will work best in a semi-dry or dry climate as drier air cools down easier and faster than humid air. The block of ice inserted in the cooler may last for about 5 hours or if you’re using larger blocks, then it will last up to 10 hours.
Step 1
Place the PVC pipe on one side of the cooler’s lid, then the small fan on the other side with the fan facing down the lid. Grab a pen or pencil, then trace around the base of the pipe and fan to the lid, and drill a hole on the traced line. Next, cut the hole with an electric jigsaw starting right at the drilled hole, then remove the cut-off round piece.

Step 2
Insert the bottom of the pipe to the hole until it’s nice and secured, then insert the fan to the other side as well. You can screw the mini fan to the lid as well to secure it in place, then you can also connect it to a small solar panel or attach a plug and socket to it. Place a large block of ice inside the cooler, you can also freeze water on a plastic gallon or two, then add it inside the cooler as well.
