How To Cut Square Glass Bottle Using The Water Method

You may have seen a lot of ideas or inspiration for recycling a square glass bottle but don’t know how to cut these types of glasses, to begin with. Well, you will be surprised by how easy it actually is and using only a regular glass cutter with some physics! Learn how to do it with a few simple steps through this video tutorial by Well Done Tips on YouTube.
Materials:
- Regular glass cutter
- Hot water
- Cold water
- Large container
- 2 pieces of scrap wood
- Screws
- Drill
- 60 grit sandpaper
- 280 grit sandpaper
Directions:
Step 1
Find 2 scrap wood and make a jig of some sort using them. Next, lay the jig properly, it should look like an L-shape, then place the bottle flatly beside the vertical wood, and lay the glass cutter flat on top of the vertical wood as well. Press the bottle and glass cutter with each other steadily, then slowly move the bottle around making sure to cut it in a straight line. Prepare boiling hot water and really cold water, you will use this to stress the bottle.

Step 2
Pour the boiling water over the cut line on the bottle as you slowly turn it around. Immediately pour cold water over the same cut line until it cracks, and repeat the process of alternating the water until the bottle cracks completely. If it doesn’t crack neatly, take your time with the water method, then grab the glass cutter, tap it onto the leftover glass pieces or repeat cutting the line. Splash some water over 60 grit sandpaper, then start rubbing the cut area of the bottle to smooth it out. For a nice finish, switch to a 280 grit sandpaper, and rub until there are no sharp edges.
