This sewing project by Professor Pincushion on YouTube is unbelievably easy to make that even beginners will be surprised! I love this tutorial so much because it is pretty straightforward and simple. In fact, I already made a few of these covers for my steering wheel. You should try sewing your own steering wheel covers too!
Materials:
- Minky or fleece fabric
- Elastic
- Scissors or rotary cutter
- Safety pin
- Pins
- Sewing machine
Directions:
Step 1
Go and take the accurate measurements of your steering wheel, because making a bigger cover will make it slip around. The first thing you have to measure is the total outer circumference of your steering wheel, write it down and add ½ inch for the seam allowance. This project’s steering wheel measured 48½ inches. Next, take the circumference around the thickness of the steering wheel, write it down and add 1½ inches, this project measured a total of 5½ inches. Cut out your fabric to the total measurement that you got, in this case, a rectangle with a 48½*5½” size.

Step 2
Fold the fabric in half bringing the two short ends together and matching up their edges. Make sure that their right sides are facing, pin them together, then sew with a straight stitch, and backstitch at the beginning and end. Fold over both the long sides of the fabric inward by ½ inch to create a casing for the elastic. Pin them in place so that they don’t move around, then sew them. Attach a safety pin at the end of the elastic, then insert them on both the upper and lower casing of the fabric. Overlap the ends of the elastic by ½”, then sew them together. Stretch the cover nice and even.
