This DIY by Do It On A Dime is amazing! It’s the perfect trendy storage solution for any room in your home. These baskets only cost $1 each. You can make two different types of bags with this simple DIY tutorial. One made from a rug or placemat, and one from a box or wire basket and rope. Both are perfect for home baskets, but the run bag could be a perfect tote if you just add a strap to the top of the bag.

Materials Needed For This DIY:

  • Hot Glue
  • Place Mat or Rug

Directions:

For the Rug Bag:

Step One

Flip your placemat inside out. You will want to get the kind with the fringe on it. You can also use a floor mat that has fringe on it. the fringe isn’t necessary but will make the bag look better.

Step Two

Glue sides of the bag together with hot glue. You can also buy fabric glue, glue sticks. This will ensure that the rug or placemat holds together better. You can also create a boxed seam a the bottom of the bag by not gluing to the bottom of the seam, then folding the seam in at the bottom like a bag of potato chips.

Step Three

Flip the bag right side out and smooth out the bottom.

For the Rope Basket:

Step One

Get out the rope and weave it in and out of the wire on the bottom of the wire basket. If you’re using a plastic basket, use the rope to wrap around the bottom of the basket.

Step Two

Put a pillowcase into the basket to make the top of the basket decorated. This is the perfect basket to hold books and toys for a kid’s room or hair supplies for the bathroom.
