I am so in love with this sunshine shoofly quilt pattern by Missouri Star. The star is just beautiful, and the colors are refreshing to look at! For the center block, you need squares and half-square triangles, while for the outer part, you need to make hourglass blocks. Watch the video below for full instructions.

Instructions

Step 1:

Make the hourglass block. Get four light and four dark print 10″ squares. Place one light on top of the dark square right sides together. Sew the sides a quarter of an inch. Next, cut it in half vertically and horizontally to get four 5″ squares. Iron them open and press to the dark side.

Step 2:

Sew them into a four-patch. Make sure the lights and darks are opposite, then press the four patches open.

Step 3:

Put them right sides together, staggering the colors. Sew all the way around outside. Make sure they are lined up. Once done, cut diagonally in both directions. Open and now you have four hourglasses. Square them into 6 inches.

Step 4:

Get one 10″ dark square and one 10″ light square and place them right sides together. Cut 2 pieces of 2 1/2″ strips. You need four 2 1/2″ dark squares and four 2 1/2″ light squares. Make the four dark 2/1″2 squares and four light 2 1/2″ squares into half-square triangles by placing them on top of each other and sewing diagonally from corner to corner. Once done, trim off one side and press them open. Trim them into 2 1/4″ squares.

Step 5:

Cut one 2 1/2″ dark square and four 2 1/4″ by 2 1/2″ white blocks. Arrange the half-square triangles and the squares. Sew them together.
