Materials:

  • fat quarter bundle

  • rotating mat
  • quilt rulers

Directions:

Step 1

Pick twelve fat quarters from your bundle and iron them flat. Next, select eight fat quarters and subcut them into four 4 1/2″ squares, and four 4 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ rectangles. Subcut the remaining fat quarters into four 4 1/2″ squares and four 4 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ rectangles. Set them aside in a pile accordingly.

Step 2

Start assembling the quilt top. For the odd rows, lay a 4 1/2″ square followed by a 12 1/2″ rectangle, then another 4 1/2″ square. End the odd rows with a 4 1/2″ square always. For the even rows, start with an 8 1/2″ rectangle followed by a 4 1/2″ square, then a 12 1/2″ rectangle, and 4 1/2″ square. Always end the even rows with an 8 1/2″ rectangle. Keep building the rows until you achieve your desired quilt size (12 rows in total.) Once done, sew the pieces together into rows, and then sew those rows together to complete the quilt top.
