Instructions:

Step 1:

Take 2 contrasting color charm packs and stack them on top of each other. Take your ruler and measure 2 inches from the edge and cut. Next, measure 2 inches from the previous cutting line, then cut. Now, you’ll have 2 pieces of 2″ wide and 1 piece of 1″ wide.

Step 2:

Set the first and third strips aside. Rotate it and repeat the cutting just like before.

Measurements:

  • A – 2″ x 5″
  • B – 1″ x 5″
  • C – 2″ x 2″
  • D – 2″ x 2″
  • E – 2″ x 1″

Step 3:

Separate fabric 1 from fabric 2 and swap the center squares. Next, sew each block with a 1/4″ seam allowance. Start by sewing fabric C and fabric D together. Press the seams in any direction. Next, sew the fabrics E, A, and B. Once done, trim the excess fabric and cut a 4″ x 4″ block. Do the same for the other block. Continue with the same process for the remaining fabrics. You will make 40 blocks in total.

Step 4:

For the pillow cover. Arrange the blocks in 5 rows and 5 columns. Lay them in different directions to make an interesting design. Once you’re happy with the arrangement, sew them together one row at a time. Press the seams towards one side. You want to press the seams of each row in opposite directions. Sew the rows together.

Step 5:

Layer it with batting and backing fabric and quilt as you desire. Next, trim off the excess fabrics which should measure 18″ x 18″.

Step 6:

Finish the raw edges of the lower part of the top backing and the upper part of the bottom fabric. You can do this either with a zig-zag stitch or serger. Lay the top backing on the right side of the zipper. Secure with pins and sew with 1/4″ allowance. Press the seams and top stitch. Lay the bottom backing right side up and then lay the zipper right side down. Align the edges and secure with pins. Sew with a 1/4″ seam allowance. Press the seams and top stitch. Trim the excess of the zipper.

Step 7:

Lay the front piece right side up and lay the back piece right side down. Make sure to unzip the zipper halfway. Secure in place with some sewing clips and sew all around with a 3/8″ seam allowance. Clip all the corners. Be careful to not cut through the stitches. Finish the raw edges with a zigzag stitch.

Step 8:

Turn the fabric inside out through the zipper opening. Poke the corners with a point-turner or sticks. Place the pillow inside.

Step 9:

For the table runner. Use the remaining blocks to make the table runner. For the background strips, cut 6 pieces of 11″ x 2.5″ and 2 pieces of 30″ x 2.5″ from the background fabric.

Step 10:

Arrange them in this pattern. Start sewing each row of the blocks together. Press the seams towards one side. Then sew the background fabric to the rows of blocks with 1/4 seam allowance.
