Skillet Fried Bacon And Cabbage Recipe

This recipe by The Hillbilly Kitchen – Down Home Country Cooking on YouTube may look simple but it tastes incredibly delicious and will surely make every family mealtime special! It smells so good and it only requires about 4 to 5 ingredients, so it’s perfect if you’re in a hurry or on a budget.

Ingredients:

• ½ package or 6-8 ounces of bacon strips, chopped into small pieces
• 1 piece of onion, chopped
• ½ head of cabbage, core removed, and chopped into small cube pieces
• Salt and pepper, to taste

Directions:

Step 1

Place a skillet pan on a stove over medium-high heat, then slice the bacon strips into smaller pieces, and add them to the hot pan. Let the bacon pieces cook until nice and crispy making sure to stir consistently to not burn the bacon on the bottom of the pan. Once the bacon is done cooking, remove it from the pan leaving only the rendered grease, then in the same pan, add the onion, toss, and let it cook for a few minutes. While the onion is cooking cut the cabbage head in half, then remove the core, and slice it into smaller cubed pieces.

Step 2

After letting the onions cook for about 2 to 3 minutes, add the sliced cabbage, then carefully mix them together, and cover with the lid for a few minutes to let the cabbage cook and become tender as it soaks up all of the greases. After the cabbage has shrunk, give a good mix scraping off the bottom to make sure it doesn’t burn on the pan, then once almost done cooking, season them with salt and pepper to taste, and mix them to combine. Add the cooked bacon back into the pan, then mix them all together, and turn off the heat. Transfer to a serving plate, then serve together with your favorite dish, and enjoy!
