Instructions:

Step 1:

Cut a 6 1/2″ square from a plain paper. Fold it in half twice. From the corner of the non-folded edge, make a mark that is one and seven eights of an inch away. Do the same on the other non-folded edge. Connect the marks with a pencil or you can cut straight away for the octagon template.

Step 2:

Take your 7 1/2″ background square and fold it in half vertically and horizontally to find the center.

Step 3:

Place the template in the center of the background square and mark it all the way around the edge of your template. Flip the fabric and trace it again.

Step 4:

Take your 2″ square for the center and cut it into a 5-sided shape. Place on the center of your background fabric and stitch all around the edges.

Step 5:

Take your scraps and start with your smaller pieces. Get one, put it right sides together with the edge of your center shape and stitch. Cut the thread and pull the workout from your machine. Flip your first piece over to the right side. Continue working clockwise around the center shape. Press it with an iron.

Step 6:

Flip your patchwork to the wrong side and double-check that it’s the same size as your template. Add a couple of dabs of glue to your template and glue it in place. Trim around the edge.

Step 7:

Spray basting spray to your batting and place it on the back of your 10″ backing square. Mark a border all around the block. It’s going to be 1 3/4″ inch away from the edge of the fabric. Do not make your lines too dark.

Step 8:

Take your octagon and place it into the center of the border. Secure the flower in place. Fill the triangles on the outer edge with the triangle fabric pieces with a neutral thread. Sew with a quarter of an inch seam allowance.

Step 9:

Place a 7 1/2″ background right side togethers with the side edge of the flowers and align it with the previously marked lines. Sew with a quarter of an inch seam allowance. Trim excess and finger press. Do the same on the other side.

Step 10:

Remark the top and bottom lines. Place the longest strip right side together with the flower. Make it level with the marked line. Sew it edge to edge. After that, trim off excess fabric and finger press.

Step 11:

Take your green squares and small background rectangles. Place the square right sides together with the shorter edge of the background rectangle. Do the same to the pieces. Place the green rectangle in the middle. Make a diagonal line from the top left corner to the bottom right on the green square on the right. Make an opposite diagonal to the left green square. Sew on the lines and press. Trim a quarter of an inch away from the stitching line and repress.

Step 12:

Place the remaining background rectangles on the side of the leaves and sew them together. Press the seam allowances. Sew on the bottom edge of the flower. Trim off excess and press your block.
