This project is also ideal for beginners, but seasoned quilters would still find this quilt fun to make. And if you need a quick quilt for birthdays or any occasion, this quilt is perfect. Watch the video tutorial below to learn the step by step instructions.

Materials:

  • 1 pack of 5″ print squares (charm pack)
  • 2 1/4 yards of background fabric (includes sashing and inner border)
  • 1 1/4 yards of outer border fabric
  • 3/4 yard binding fabric
  • 3 3/4 yards of backing fabric

Directions:

Step 1

To start, cut 5″ squares of background fabric. Once done, take one of these and one 5″ printed square, line them right sides together, then sew all the way around. After this, cut it in half in both directions, press them open to the dark side, then square both to 3″. Once you have all the half-square triangles, it’s time to assemble the block.

Step 2

Put four blocks like a four-patch, alternating the colors in light and dark all the way around, then sew these together to make the pinwheel block. (When doing the succeeding blocks, make sure to put them together all the same way.) Repeat these steps and make 42 pinwheels.

Step 3

For the sashing, put one on each pinwheel block and sew them together. Each pinwheel block gets one sashing. When assembling the quilt top, the sashing part of each block will be sewn to the right side of every pinwheel. Each row will have six blocks, and you will need seven rows to complete the quilt top.
