Say hello to your new favortie way to entertain the kids. This homemade play dough recipe by Paula Dean is just what I’ve been looking for. It is edible, and it looks and functions just like store bought play dough. This recipe will only require a few ingredients and can be made in under 10 minutes. The edible factor is a key factor in this. You won’t be able to use the playdough for super long, but it does keep children from eating toxic ingredients found in some other forms of play dough. It is also completely customizable, because you can dye it any color.

Materials Needed For This DIY:

  • Water
  • Table Salt
  • Flour
  • Canola Oil
  • Food Coloring

Directions:

Step One

In one bowl, mix up salt, canola oil and water. You will need to mix this up as much as possible, then add in your food coloring.

Step Two

Sift the flour before you use it. You will want the flour to be very fine so it will mix into the water and other ingredients well.

Step Three

Once the food coloring is good and mixed, add in your flour. Add the flour in slowly. This will be what really give the mixture a play dough texture. Add the flour gradually until it reaches your desired thickness level. You might need to add in more food coloring during this step as well.

Step Four

Take the mixture out of the bowl once all the ingredients are combined. Use your hands to mix and kneed the dough. Add more flour if the dough is too sticky.
