Channel your inner Dolly Parton with a super creative “Coat of Many Colors” do it yourself patchwork pillow. I’ve made lots of patchwork projects over the years, but this is certainly my favorite by far. So many patchwork items get tucked away, and you can only have so many quilts. This one gets to be displayed front and center in your living room or bedroom, and because you make it from fabric scraps and odds and ends from your sewing notions bag I know you keep, the possibilities for this one are endless. I always go for colorful, especially this time of year, when Spring has finally arrived. My pillow is pink, orange and lime green, which looks super cute with all of my Easter decors. You could, of course, do pastels, darks, even a mismatch of old denim jeans. Pom poms and doilies make super accents, as would ricrac trim.Yarn is also used for tassels, and I had never done this particular thing before, nor had I ever found a great use for my yarn scraps.
This project was so easy and enjoyable, that I am going to make my next one with my granddaughter who is just learning how to sew. Because you can use fabric scraps, I am not worried at all if she makes a mistake and messes up a piece of fabric. Plus, patchwork like this is quite forgiving, and any huge error could even be covered up by trim! I am hoping it turns out perfectly, though. We shall see. She is going to have fun, regardless. The yarn tying is sure to be her favorite part.
This creative sewing idea is sure to make anyone who looks at it smile. If you are looking for something to channel your inner creative artist or Dolly Parton, this DIY patchwork pillow is for you.
