Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 can (10 oz) French onion soup (or beef broth)
  • 1 can (10 oz) cream of soup (celery, chicken, or mushroom)
  • 20 oz frozen o’brien style hash brown potatoes, thawed
  • 8 oz shredded cheese (of your choice) divided
  • fresh or dried parsley, for garnish

Directions:

Step 1

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat, then add the ground beef. Break it up and cook until it turns brown. Once the ground beef is browned, remove the grease with a paper towel and start seasoning with 1/8 tsp salt, 1/8 tsp black pepper, and 1/4 tsp garlic powder. Mix well, then add 3 tbsp butter, 3 tbsp all-purpose flour. Stir in the flour and melt the butter for about a minute. After this, add 1/2 cup of milk, 1 can of French onion soup, and 1 can cream of soup. Mix everything together until well combined.

Step 2

Taste test at this point and season accordingly. Next, add the frozen hash browns and mix everything well. After this, add 4 oz of shredded cheese of your choice and stir it in. Turn the heat to medium-low, cover the skillet with its lid, and simmer it for about ten minutes. After simmering, add another 4 oz of shredded cheese on top, place the lid back on, and let it rest for a few minutes for the cheese to melt. Serve and enjoy!
