This little quilt from Fat Quarter Shop on Youtube is seriously one of the cutest I’ve made. It’s super easy and beginner-friendly and will be a good project if you’re having a break making a big quilt. You can also make this as scrappy as you want, so be sure to use your favorite charm packs! Watch this video to learn how to make this.

Materials:

  • four mini charm packs or 148 – 2 & 1/2″ squares
  • 1 yard background
  • 1/2 yard binding
  • 1 & 1/4 yards backing
  • click here for the free pattern

Cutting:

  • 148 – 2 & 1/2″ squares (fabric A)

cut background fabric into:

  • 16 – 2 & 1/2″ x 6 & 1/2″ rectangles (fabric B)
  • 48 – 2″ squares (fabric C)
  • 2 – 2 & 1/2″ x 14 & 1/2″ rectangles (fabric D)
  • 3 – 2 & 1/2″ x 30 & 1/2″ strips (fabric E)
  • 2 – 2 & 1/2″ x 34 & 1/2″ strips (fabric F)

cut the binding fabric into:

  • 5 – 2 & 1/2″ x WOF strips (fabric G)

Directions:

Step 1

Draw a line from corner to corner on a fabric C square, then place it on one corner of a fabric A square. Stitch directly on the line, trim a quarter inch away, and press towards the white. Make 48 pieces of these. Now, start assembling your quilt block. Take three of the unit you just made, then add fabric A on the vacant places (see picture below). Stitch them together, then press.

Step 2

Make four of these for each block. In assembling the blocks, you’ll want one of the solid prints in the center, then have the white on the outside. Add some fabric B rectangles in between, then take another mini charm pack square and put it in the center. Sew them, then press. Make four of these. In putting your quilt together, add fabric D sashing and press, then E sashing and press. Add your outer borders with your remaining fabric E strips, and your top and bottom borders using the fabric F strips.
