Materials:

  • Double-sided tape
  • A piece of denim
  • Needle and matching thread
  • Scissors
  • Sewing machine
  • Iron for pressing

Directions:

Step 1

Turn your pants inside out, then insert a thick fabric or pad at the back right where the hole is so that it wouldn’t stick to the other side of the pants. Pull the seams of the hole as close as you can nicely and properly, place a strip of double-sided tape with its sticky side down on the ripped area, then cut the tape according to the size of the rip or hole, and extend the length of the tape as you see fit. Press it nicely with an iron to fuse the tape on the denim, then remove the paper at the back of the tape.

Step 2

Cut a piece of denim from old or scrap jeans that you’re no longer using, then place it on top of the rip or hole, and press it well with an iron to fuse it with the sticky tape. Choose a matching thread that is the closest to the color of your jeans, then sew it with a simple stitch to join them or use a whip stitch. Next, turn it right side out, then sew it with a tight zigzag pattern on the sewing machine, and repeat the layer of stitch until the ripped part is nicely covered. Turn it inside out once more, then trim the excess fabric that you used to patch the hole or rip, turn them right side out for the last time, and press it nicely.
