Materials:

  • Salt
  • Water
  • Dishwashing liquid
  • White vinegar
  • Dry cloth
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • White wine or vodka
  • Heavy books or magazines
  • Sponge

Directions:

Method #1

Pour a generous amount of salt directly onto the stain, make sure that the stain remains wet because the salt won’t be able to absorb the wine if it has dried up already, if needed, add some water to moisturize the stain again, and then leave it for a few minutes or up to overnight. As the salt absorbs the wine it will slowly turn pink, so remember to add a little water every once in a while.

Method #2

Mix together 1 tablespoon of dishwashing soap, 1 tablespoon of vinegar (make sure to use white only because other types will also stain the area even more), and 2 cups of warm water until well combined, then dab the mixture into the stain, and let it soak into the carpet fiber. Blot up the liquid using a dry cloth, then apply the solution again, and repeat blotting with a dry cloth alternately until desired results. Wet the entire stain with cold water, and repeat the entire process as needed.

If you have a super light carpet, then use hydrogen peroxide instead of vinegar, and add a generous amount of soap with a maximum of ½ cup. Also, remember to test this out on a small unseen corner before proceeding because hydrogen peroxide is a mild bleaching agent and might ruin the color of your carpet.

Method #3

Pour some white wine or vodka into the stain, then lightly blot the area using a sponge, make a paste out of some baking soda and water, and then add it on top. Place a dry rag on top, then press it down with a heavy book or set of magazines, this will press the soda paste into the stain. This may stain the magazine or book underneath so make sure to use those that you really don’t care about. Let this sit for a while, then give it a rinse with cold water or hydrogen peroxide, and dry it up or vacuum it.
