This video tutorial by Learn To Grow on YouTube is an amazing idea that lets you learn how to repurpose an eggshell and turn it into an inexpensive and practical planter for your seeds. This is what I’ve been doing ever since watching this tutorial, I would first plant the seeds in eggshell planters before I transfer them to my garden. Plus, they add some fun and they look incredibly adorable when displayed indoors.

Materials:

  • Seeds
  • Eggshells
  • Pushpin
  • A bunch of pebbles
  • Potting soil

Directions:

Step 1

Make sure to crack the eggshell’s top and not halfway so that you can still use most of it as a planter. You can still use and cook the egg the usual way you want it. Then, make sure to clean the eggshell before using it. Use hot water and dish soap, then air dry it. Poke some holes at the bottom of the eggshell to create drainage. Grab a push pin, then carefully pop a hole on it from the interior of the eggshell. Grab a tray or container, put some pebbles around it, then let the eggshell sit right on top of them.

Step 2

Fill the eggshell at about ¾ full with moist potting soil, if it’s dry then might want to rehydrate them. Place some wheatgrass seeds or whatever seed you want, no need to cover it with soil. Also, soaking the seeds overnight before using them will help them germinate faster. Spray a bit of water on them daily until they germinate or for about 4 days. After germinating, you can mist your seeds every 2 days until it is ready for harvest, then transfer them to a larger pot or garden bed.
