If you’re looking to make a temporary grill and need one that’s cheap, make your own by using only 20 bricks and a cast iron grate. I think this is pretty cool that this brick grill works and you can cook anything on it by using charcoal. Food Wishes tutorial on YouTube shows how easy it is to make one in less than 5 minutes. I’m so used to him making food tutorial videos, but this goes hand in hand with some of his cooking. This is such a temporary grill if you don’t grill often in the summer at all, but then something in the meantime. You can just set this up whenever you need it and put it away when you don’t. I love the taste of grilling food on top of charcoal because it gives a smokey charred flavor unlike propane.

Materials:

  • 20 plain clay bricks
  • cast iron grate

Directions:

First, start off by finding a flat surface ground and lay down a base of bricks with 4 going vertically down and 3 across. Then, put another layer of bricks by putting them on its side with two per side all around.

Next, depending on the shape and size of your bricks, you can push them together and place the cast iron grate on top.

This brick grill is ready to go if you add the charcoal on the bottom and wait for them to turn white. Just make sure the grate is hot in order for you to cook anything on it. There are so many creative DIYs out there when it comes to inexpensive and budget-friendly grills. This also gives me an idea on making a fire pit because the bricks do a great job keeping the fire in its tunnel.
