Instructions:

Step 1:

Take 30 strips from the roll and set aside. Arrange them into pairs that are in contrast. From the remaining strips, cut them into 5-inch strips and sew them together to make the piano key border.

Step 2:

Take one of the pairs and place them on top of each other. Sew on both edges. Cut 12 pieces of 2 1/2″ triangles and 4 pieces of 3″ triangles. Press them open toward the dark side. Repeat with the other pairs.

Step 3:

Get 4 pieces of 3″ half-square triangles. Place two pieces on top of the other two and draw a diagonal, corner to corner, from the white to the print. Sew 1/4″ away from both sides of the line. Cut on the drawn lines. Trim them into 2 1/2″ blocks, then press them open.

Step 4:

Make the corner blocks. Get 3 pieces of 2 1/2″ triangles from earlier and 1 piece of 2 1/2″ solid white square. Sew them into a four-patch and press it open. Repeat 3 more times for a total of 4. They should measure 4 1/2″.

Add a 1 1/2″ strip of fabric and sew on two sides of the block for the sashing. Repeat with the other blocks. When you arrange the blocks into rows, the blocks should be rotated one after the other.
