This quilt block is made out of half-square triangles and only requires 3 different fabric colors. You can use this block to make a table runner, place mat, or any other quilt that you want.

Materials for Peppermint Quilt Block:

  • Red fabric
  • Green fabric
  • Background fabric
  • Marking pen, pencil, or chalk
  • Ruler
  • Needle and thread
  • Scissors or rotary cutter and a cutting mat
  • Iron, for pressing
  • Sewing machine

How to Make a Peppermint Quilt Block:

Step 1

Cut the fabrics to size, then draw a line at the back diagonally from corner to corner, and lay together a medium-sized red and green square with their right sides facing. Stitch on either side of the line, then cut them apart, and press them open.

Step 2

Square the half-square triangle unit, then lay together the large red and background squares with their right sides facing, place the template on top, and pin them together. Stitch them together as instructed in the video, then trim off the excess, and cut them apart.

Step 3

Press them open, then square each block unit, and assemble them to make the center block as shown in the video. Stitch them, then place the small green squares on each corner with their right sides facing, and stitch them diagonally from corner to corner.

Step 4

Cut off the excess, then press them open, and arrange the block units together as shown in the video. Stitch them per row, then the rows to each other, and press the seams as you go.
