The fried chicken neck is absolutely delicious and is something that you shouldn’t miss out on, I was skeptical about trying it at first, I must admit, because never really liked that particular part of the chicken, but once I tried it, I have now been craving for it more often than I would expect. It was so yummy and very easy to prepare, too, which makes it super convenient for me because I’m a busy person and I don’t really have much time to prepare my own food most days. All thanks to OLD SCHOOL SOUL FOOD on YouTube for this wonderful recipe that is now one of my favorites.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound of chicken necks
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup of buttermilk
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • White pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups of self-rising flour
  • Vegetable oil, as needed

Directions:

Step 1

Wash and clean the chicken necks, then remove the skin if you want, and pat them dry. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then give them a good toss to combine and set them aside. In a separate large mixing bowl, add the egg and buttermilk, then give them a good mix until well combined and incorporated, then add the seasoned chicken necks. Toss and massage them together to coat, then transfer them to a Ziploc bag filled with flour, and start shaking them around until well coated.

Step 2

Place a pot or deep pan on a stove over medium-high heat, then fill it with vegetable oil high enough to deep fry the chicken necks, and allow it to heat up to about 350°F. Once the oil is hot enough, start dropping the chicken necks in batches to not overcrowd the pan, then allow them to cook for about 6 to 7 minutes on each side until nice and golden brown. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil, then place a wire rack on top, and put the fried chicken necks on top to drain off excess oil. Allow them to cool down a bit, then serve them along with your favorite sauce, and enjoy!
