As a new quilter, I often find some tutorials too difficult to do and the steps are sometimes just a bit too complicated for me to follow. This is why I need to find a great content creator who can make things seem easier and simpler for me to understand. Just like Carol Thelen on YouTube, one of my all-time favorite quilters! She’s just as awesome as her projects, and her quilts are guaranteed stunning every time.

But what makes her special is the way she demonstrates her projects and how detailed she explains the steps that even beginners can follow without a hassle. So, if you’re a beginner who wants to try a quilt that is a bit challenging but still fun to make, then you’re in for a treat because this Moda love quilt block is just what you’re looking for. Go ahead and read the instructions down below, then print the diagram to serve as a guide, and watch the video tutorial as well for more details.
Step 1
Download the pattern and cut the fabrics as instructed, then group the squares and triangles, and start making the half-square triangles for the outer background. Make 8 half-square triangles each of blue and white, and red and white, simply lay the triangles together with their right sides facing and edges matching, then stitch them together, and press the seams open.
Step 2
For the inner background, make 8 half-square triangles for the black and white triangles, then 10 of the yellow and white triangles, and 2 of the red and white triangles. Once done, make the center unit by laying 2 red half-square triangles and 2 yellow half-square triangles together alternately, then make sure that the colored side is at the center as shown in the video, and stitch them together making sure to press the seams as well.

Step 3
Piece the 4 corner units with a finished measurement of 9.5 inches, then make the 4 side units as well with a finished measurement of 6.5 x 9.5 inches, and make sure to refer to the diagram. After piecing all of the units, arrange them together, and start stitching them one at a time. Give them a press as you go and you’re done!
