Peppermint Patties

  • ¼-½ tsp of pure peppermint oil, food-grade
  • ¼ tsp of pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp of evaporated milk or heavy cream

Chocolate Coating

  • 8 ounces of semi-sweet or bitter-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 tbsp of shortening or butter

How to Make Chocolate Peppermint Patties:

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, add the sugar, butter, peppermint oil, vanilla extract, and evaporated milk, then beat them over low speed until combined, increase the speed to medium-low, and keep beating for about 2 minutes until dough forms. Place the dough between two sheets of parchment paper, then roll it until about ¼ inch thick and 8 inches round.

Step 2

Place the dough on a baking sheet, making sure it is still sandwiched between the parchment paper, then put it in the refrigerator to set for about 60 minutes or freeze for 15 minutes until cold and very firm. Once chilled, remove from the refrigerator, peel off the top piece of parchment paper, and start cutting the dough with a 1½ inch cookie cutter dipped in powdered sugar.
