I’ve always wanted to try making a book quilt because they look so fun and incredibly interesting, luckily, one of my favorite quilters has a video tutorial on YouTube which made it easier for me. I immediately gave it a try at home and I was so happy with the result, even my family and friends were so impressed that they even asked me to make one for them. If you also want to learn how then watch this video tutorial by Jenny Doan via Missouri Star on YouTube.
Step 1
Cut the fabrics to size, then lay the fat quarter on top of the background strip with their right sides facing and edges matching, and sew them together on one side with ¼ seam allowance. Add another square right next to the first one, then trim off the excess and cut the pieces apart as well, and press them open. Cut them into strips at random sizes, then continue to make more until you have enough pile, and start stitching the books together making sure to press every now and then.

Step 2
Cut the book block into a 12½-inch square, then repeat the same steps to make more book blocks, and make the kitty block, vase block, and flower block as well. Now, sew the blocks together into a row, then add the sashing in between each row, and add the fabric piece for the side and top of the bookshelf. Next, add the border, backing, and binding to the bookshelf, then quilt it however you want, and you’re done!
