In this step by step tutorial, Nanay Express will teach you how to make this cute DIY scrunchie with a zipper. It’s a super quick, easy, and beginner-friendly sewing project you can do on a weekend. It’s also a great scrap buster as you won’t need large pieces of fabric to do this project. Watch the video tutorial below to learn the step by step procedure.

Materials:

  • 26″ x 5″ fabric (of choice)
  • zipper or invisible zipper
  • elastic
  • sewing machine
  • pins

Directions:

Step 1

To start, fold the fabric with the right side inside, then sew the open edges with a 1/4″ seam allowance. After sewing, finger-press the seam open, then open the lower edges and place the zipper, right sides together. Sew the bottom part of the zipper into the fabric. Next, fold the lower half of the top fabric inside, overlap the upper half onto it, then fold the zipper into the upper half of the fabric. Sew it in place. After this, pin the zipper in place, then sew the open parts on both sides of the zipper. When you reach the edge, pull the fabric and continue sewing down.
