As I was looking for an easy sturdy greenhouse tutorial, for protecting my plants in the winter, I ran across this most interesting and amazing informative video. It left me totally speechless! I’d never ever seen anything like this and thought it to be so interesting that I just had to share it with you. I’ll get around to a regular plant greenhouse later…

This family bought a summer house and that wasn’t meant to be lived in during the winter months. They bought it with the intention of making it their year around “nature house”…thus, the reason for the greenhouse!

My jaw dropped when I saw the transition they made in order to occupy their home in the winter months!  This phenomenal greenhouse actually encases the home inside of it and enables them to live in it year around, keeping them plenty warm. Oh, and this house doesn’t have a roof on it…it opens to a terrace on top, otherwise the house would be too warm.

I’d like to mention, in Stockholm, Sweden, July is the hottest month, with an average temperature of 18°C (64°F) and the coldest is January at -3°C (27°F) with the most daily sunshine hours at 12 in June.

With this greenhouse they are able to save their own energy with the energy from the sun. With the greenhouse enclosing their home, they don’t need a lot of insulation. The idea came from an Architect who designed this idea in the 1990’s.

They make and reuse their own water, with an elaborate cleaning system. Watch this video by Kirstin Dirksen to see all of this for yourself! You’ll be amazed!
