What can we do if all the stores are sold out of gloves? Well, I had just this dilemma during the current COVID 19 pandemic. I had waited too long to buy disposable gloves only to find that they were all sold out when I finally decided to go and buy a pack. So I frantically went on Youtube looking for any kind of alternative DIY idea for plastic gloves that could serve as a stand in to serve as a one time usage item for something simple like touching a grocery cart. With everyone worrying about masks I thought the gloves were just as important. The materials are really simple and straightforward as well. However, the masks that you can make at home are not proven to protect against COVID 19 and I have only made them in a pinch to wear with another disposable mask. For in-depth information regarding how to protect yourself against COVID 19, please view this link from the CDC Website describing all safe practices during the COVID 19 outbreak.

Materials:

  • 1 plastic garbage bag
  • 1 hot tool (such as a soldering iron or leather embossing tool)
  • 1 Sharpie Marker (or other marker)

Directions:

First, lay your hand out on the plastic bag the trace around it with your Sharpie Marker, making the outline about one half inch away from your hand.

Then you heat up your hot tool of choice and trace around the hand pattern, this will both cut and seal the glove shut on the sides.

I’m so glad I found this idea, it works really well.
