Four-patch blocks are one of the easiest quilt patterns. If you are just starting your quilting journey, I suggest you learn how to make a basic four-patch block. Once you have mastered it and all the other basic quilting blocks, try to explore the disappearing patterns. There are a lot of designs to choose from, and this disappearing 4-patch whirlygig two-step by Brita Nelson the Questioning Quilter is one of my favorites.

Isn’t this pattern beautiful? It instantly caught my attention the first time I saw it. I absolutely love it, but was hesitant to make it as it looks hard and tedious. Don’t be fooled! You’ll be surprised how easy it is to make this quilt. It will only take you a couple of minutes to finish one block. I am sure everyone will think you’ve spent a lot of time making this quilt top.

Sew the four pieces of 4 4/3″ squares into a four-patch. Make sure to alternate the dark and light squares. It should measure 9″ x 9″ square.
Cut 1 1/2″ from the center seam in all directions.
Arrange the squares just like in the photo below. Sew them like a four patch. Start by sewing them in rows. Once done, sew the rows together, then press the block flat. You need four of this square to make the block.
Arrange the squares into a block forming a star shape just like in the photo below.
