Even though the recipe is foolproof, there is still a chance that cookies may not spread or become dry and crumbly. If this happens, you might want to adjust the amount of flour you added, as it may be too much. To make sure you are adding the right amount of flour to your mixture, use the spoon and level method. This old-fashioned cookie recipe will make about 24 cookies, which is perfect for sharing.

Best Sugar Cookie Recipe Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder (optional)
  • 1 cup of unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • 1 1/2 cups of white sugar (plus more for coating)

Note: the baking powder is optional but it will make your cookie lift more
