Ingredients:

For the bread dough:

  • 2 cups (260g) flour
  • 1/2 cup + 2 & 1/2 tbsp (160ml) milk
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp yeast
  • 1 & 1/2 tbsp (19g) sugar
  • 2 tbsp (30ml) oil

For the topping:

  • 3/4 cups (175g) mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • 2 tsp finely chopped herbs
  • 2 tbsp (30g) butter
  • a pinch of salt

Directions:

Step 1

The first step, prepare the bread dough. In a bowl, add 1/2 cup +2 & 1/2 tbsp warm milk, 1 & 1/2 tbsp sugar, 3/4 salt, and 1 tsp yeast. Stir until all ingredients get dissolved. Add 2 tbsp oil and 2 cups of flour and combine everything to form a dough. Transfer the dough to a surface and start kneading it. After kneading, let it rest for 8 – 10 minutes. In the meantime, prepare the topping by slicing the mozzarella cheese into small pieces, finely chopping some coriander leaves (you can use any herbs you want), and grating 3 cloves of garlic. Mix everything with 2 tbsp butter and a pinch of salt. (Grease the pan also and line it with some parchment paper at this point.)

Step 2

Flour a surface and transfer the dough to it. Shape the dough into a rectangle with 1/2″ thickness, place it on the baking pan, and make square patterns using a small knife. After this, fill the top with the garlic butter topping, spreading it evenly, and fill the creases with sliced mozzarella cheese.

Step 3

Cover the pan with plastic and proof the garlic bread. Let it sit for 40 minutes or until the dough rises and puff up.

Step 4

After proofing, place the bread in a preheated oven of 350 degrees F and bake it for 32 – 35 minutes. At around 25 minutes, the top of the bread will get golden brown but the bread at this point is still uncooked on the inside. So go ahead and cover it with aluminum foil to prevent the top from over-browning and bake for another 8 – 10 minutes.
